It’s World Water Day!

We don’t often think about the luxury of fresh water here in the U.S. Possibly we think about our 25 minute-long showers, running the water while brushing teeth, or our usage of washing machines and dishwashers. One very important use of water that we do not think about in our every-day life in America is food production. The drought that is occuring in many regions across the globe has a huge impact on the global hunger crisis. The UN website for World Water lists four ways which we can all help-

  • follow a healthier, sustainable diet;
  • consume less water-intensive products;
  • reduce the scandalous food wastage: 30% of the food produced worldwide is never eaten and the water used to produce it is definitively lost!
  • produce more food, of better quality, with less water.

Please check out the website to see how you can get involved with the movement. The link can be found here- UN World Water Day.
